Untitled, December 2007 - Shoes, Tree, Photo, Cloth
I created this project in memory of the 500 missing or mudered Aboriginal women in Canada. Aboriginal women are more likely to die of violence than any other demograph in Canada. The media may have forgotten but we haven’t. For this piece I collected shoes from the community. Thank-you so much to Elodie Caron who contributed many many pairs and Gwendolyn Hirst. Afterwards I shipped the piece to Vancouver and installed it in a park in Vancouver’s downtown East Side over the holidays. A few hours later all the shoes were gone.

Neon Vestige - Hair, Ribbon, feathers
Inspired by the release of the documentary “Reel Injun” by Cree filmmaker Neil Diamond
